ELMIRA, NY – Dr. Stephen Coleman is proud to announce his Ninth Unity in the Community Event. This one will honor, celebrate, and thank medical professionals in the Twin Tiers and everything they do to keep people healthy and safe. These workers include doctors, dentists, nurses, physical therapists, dieticians, pharmacists, phlebotomists, x-ray and ultrasound professionals, hospital support staff and volunteers, ambulance personnel, emergency medical technicians, and all those local heroes who comprise the medical community in the Twin Tiers.
The event will also celebrate and honor students who are working hard to become the medical professionals of the future such as the medical students at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) in Elmira and the nursing students at Mansfield University, SUNY Corning Community College, and Elmira College.
Just as he did in May and October at his unity in the community events to honor corrections officers, first responders and firefighters, Dr. Coleman is teaming up with Elmira Mayor Dan Mandell to sponsor this first of its kind community event that honors and says “thank you” to all of those who keep us healthy and safe–both currently and in the future!
The event will be held at the historic Empire Sports and Events Center at 300 North Main Street in downtown Elmira on Saturday afternoon, May 9th, 2026, from 2:00 PM till 3:00 PM. The complex is at the corner of North Main and Church Streets and is the exclusive home of Dr. Coleman’s Unity in the Community Events.
The Ninth Unity in the Community Event to Honor and Thank Medical Professionals is free, open to the public, with no tickets required.
Community leaders speaking include:
- Dan Mandell, Elmira Mayor,
- Dr. Stephen Coleman, Academic Vice President and Dean, Emeritus, Elmira College,
- Professor Elizabeth LaForest, Simulation Lab Coordinator, Elmira College,
- The Honorable Tom Santulli, former Chemung County Executive,
- And other community leaders, including a LECOM student.
Dr. Coleman’s Ninth Unity in the Community celebration will take place a day before the start of National Hospital Week!
