Thomas Earl Smith, age 80, of Mansfield, PA, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. He was born on November 22, 1945, a son of Clarence and Anna (Hughes) Smith. Thomas was married to Bonnie (Waltz) Smith for 62 years.
Thomas was a hardworking man who took great pride in providing for his family. He worked as a forklift driver for Corning Glass and spent over 40 years driving school and charter buses, becoming a familiar and trusted face to many. He was a member of Lambs Creek Community of Grace Fellowship and the Mansfield Fireman’s Auxiliary, where he proudly served as the door greeter for Bingo.
He had a way of turning strangers into friends. Thomas had a big heart and cared deeply for so many people. He was always willing to lend a hand, and he had a playful way of picking on people that was always done with kindness and affection. His friendly nature and sense of humor made him loved by many.
Thomas enjoyed mowing lawn, collecting cans for recycling, selling firewood, and watching the Woodhull races. He took pride in being a helping hand to his friends and neighbors, especially on Pickle Hill.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Bonnie; a son, Timmy “Tim” Smith of Dillsburg, PA; a daughter, Lacey (Jeff) Kennedy of Roseville, PA; a granddaughter, Brittani Katherine Smith; and a brother, Eugene Smith of Wellsboro, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Anna Smith; six siblings, Ronald Smith, Richard Smith, Walter Smith, Nancy Starkweather, Bernard Smith, and Ricky Smith; and a daughter-in-law, Lori Smith.
Friends and family are invited to call on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m., with Pastor George Zerbe officiating.
