Obituary of Scott A. Fay of Tioga, PA

Scott A. Fay, age 75 of Tioga, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 6, 2026, at Troy Community Hospital. He was born on Wednesday, August 16, 1950 in Wellsboro, PA. He was a son to the late Adrian and Estella (Davis) Fay.

He graduated from Williamson High School and then went on to achieve his associate’s degree from Corning Community College. Following graduation he began his own business, Fay Paving which lasted a lifetime.

In Scott’s youth he developed a passion for hunting and it continued throughout his life. He was a very accomplished hunter, his greatest achievement was harvesting one of the largest grizzly bears ever harvested in Alaska. His love of hunting lead him to become a furrier. He traveled in Europe to expand his knowledge of furs and imported many fur coats.

Scott was also a true entrepreneur; if he dreamed it he could do it.  At one point in his fur business, he and his brother Tom would make and sell fur coats. Scott and his first wife Kathy managed 3 different fur stores: one in Tioga, Williamsport, and Harrisburg.

In his later years he focused on the farm. The Bear Creek farm gave Scott a lot of enjoyment. He was a breeder of cattle, American Quarter horses and Thoroughbreds. Several of his horses were on the racetrack. It was said he was a very impressive man and always had a “big presence” about himself that will be deeply missed not just by his family but by the community as well.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, having dinner nights and reunions quite frequently – he loved the good company, but more importantly loved the good food too. Scott was a family man.  In his free time, he also liked raising and selling hunting dogs, riling people up for a good laugh, helping those who needed it the most, and making lifelong connections and friends.

Scott was a dreamer, a go-getter, and anything he thought he could do, he would – and a little more. He was one of a kind.

He is survived by his daughter, Tammy (Paul) Long of Middlebury Center, PA; sons, Steven, Matthew, and Dustin Fay all of Tioga, PA; grandchildren, Haley (David) Stearns of Pine City, NY; Holly VanZile of Tioga, PA, Roy Long of Middlebury Center, PA, Marissa, Noah, and Braxton Fay all of Graham, NC; great-grandchildren, Adrian and Eloise Stearns, and Lilia Brown; brothers, Ted (Brenda) Fay of Lampeter, PA, David (Chris) Fay of Johnson City, NY, Tom and Tim Fay both of Tioga, PA; girlfriend, Diane Draper and her daughter, Brooke Draper, as well as granddaughters Shaelyn Colegrove and Ariah Fuller; girlfriend, Becki Snyder of Lawrenceville, PA; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as lifelong friend, Geno Mosher. Scott was preceded in death by both his parents and his second wife, Debbie (Lusk) Fay.
