
Paul R. Charles, age 85 of Wellsboro, PA, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, May 7, 2026. Born March 19, 1941 in Bucks County, PA, he was the son of the late Paul G. Charles and Dorothy (Milikan) Hoover.
He was a graduate of Penn Ridge High and worked as a skilled electrician for Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital in Wellsboro, PA, until his retirement.
Paul was a true outdoorsman and an advocate for Pennsylvania wildlife. He didn’t just hunt; he nurtured the land through food plots and natural habitat preservation. His passion for the sport was reflected in his unique collection of hunting licenses, and he was proudly nearing his goal of securing doe licenses from every county in the state.
Paul was a familiar face and loyal member at the Galeton and Wellsboro Moose Lodges, as well as the Arnot Sportsman Club. He was instrumental in the growth of the Wellsboro Social Club, contributing to both the physical building and its organizational foundation. He was a generous supporter of all local clubs and possessed the rare gift of always having a friend no matter where he went.
He is survived by his son, Michael Charles of Wellsboro; brother, John (Esther) Hoover and their son, Mark and brothers in law, Larry (Margie) Wolfinger and Ralph Wolfinger. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy and two sons, Randy and Robert Charles.
