WESTFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA – IMPORTANT MESSAGE – At 7:55 PM, flooding was increasing across the area. All residents along the Route 49 Corridor East and West and all side roads in the borough and township are being evacuated. Route 49 was closed at 8:13 PM. Please note that the Evacuation Point is at the old school on Maple Street in Westfield. Use caution leaving your homes and getting to higher ground. Again the old school will be opened on Maple Street.

Shortly after 6:10 PM reports of water across Route 49, the 300 block of Church Street and Cross Brook had closed were reported.
By 6:21 PM, Knoxville-Deerfield Volunteer Fire Company was requested by Crary Hose Company to stand by with their swift water rescue team and boat. A short time later, the Elkland Fire Department was requested to standby at Knoxville-Deerfield fire station with their boat and rescue team.
Route 49 was reopened around 7:12 PM, by PennDOT, just in time for Crary Hose fire crews headed out to a water rescue in 100 block of Potter Brook Road in Westfield Township. Fire crews from Crary Hose Company out of Westfield, Knoxville-Deerfield Volunteer Fire Company, Harrison Valley Fire Department and Clymer Hose Company, as well as an ambulance from Sabinsville were dispatched to the incident just after 7:00 PM.
According to early reports water was starting to surround a home where a man and his dog were at.
Lawrenceville Fire Department was also requested to stage at the Knoxville-Deerfield station with their boat and rescue team. Lawrenceville was then requested to stage at Crary Hose Company in Westfield as all the flooding seemed to be centralized along Potter Brook Road.
Wellsboro Fire Department was requested to stand by at Chatham Hose Company with a boat and team. While Galeton fire rescue unit and man power were requested to Potter Brook Road to assist there.
By 7:40 PM Mansfield Hose Company was requested to have an engine company stand by at Lawrenceville since Lawrenceville was in Westfield. Tioga and Middlebury Township Volunteer Fire Department crews were also dispatched to respond to stage at the Knoxville-Deerfield fire station.
At 7:40 PM six trained firefighters entered the water along Potter Brook Road to retrieve the trapped man and his dog. At 7:55 PM, the resident and his dog were rescued and all water rescue personnel were out and safe.
Route 49 is being evacuated as of 7:55 PM. Please if you are in this area, pleas go to higher ground.
