Corner Cross Walk Signal and Traffic Signal Box Hit By Tractor Trailer

WELLSBORO, PA – Around 6:40 PM, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, a tractor trailer driver destroyed the cross walk signal and the traffic light signal box that control the traffic lights at Central Ave and Main Street.

Wellsboro Borough Police responded to the accident that was reported to the 911 Dispatch Center by several drivers.

By 6:43 PM Wellsboro Fire Department was requested to assist local police with traffic control at the intersection as the accident disabled the traffic signals and cross walk signals. Wellsboro fire personnel arrived on scene to assist with traffic control. Wellsboro Borough Public Works arrived on scene by 7:13 PM.

Although PennDOT was requested shortly after the accident, they did not arrive until 8:06 PM. By 8:09 PM Wellsboro Fire Department turned the scene over to PennDOT. Wellsboro Borough Public Works remained on scene with PennDOT.

FNN was told by a local resident that the traffic light may be down for nearly a month or more before things are fixed and working again.

According to Wellsboro Borough, drivers are reminded to treat the intersection as a four-way stop. Please use extra caution during this traffic signal outage.
