MIDDLEBURY TOWNSHIP, PA – On Saturday afternoon, May 30, 2026, Middlebury Township Volunteer Fire Department, Tioga Volunteer Fire Department, along with two ambulances from Tioga, as well as an ambulance from Wellsboro responded to a multiple vehicle accident that occurred in Middlebury Township, around 2:45 PM.
Early reports indicated that there were between three to five vehicles involved. However, it was later learned that two vehicles ran into the guiderail and a third vehicle went off the roadway and struck a tree.

According to Middlebury Township Volunteer Fire Department, Tioga’s Rescue unit with fire personnel were first to arrive on scene of the multi-vehicle crash along Route 287 near Hammond Lane. At that time, it was confirmed that there were only three vehicles involved.
Early on it was reported that five individuals were possibly from one of the vehicles involved in the accident. They included two adults and three children. The total number of patients was later updated to seven people. Five individuals refused any further treatment after being checked over by EMS personnel.
Pennsylvania State Police Troopers arrived at the crash site at 3:01 PM, and immediately they started their investigation into the crash.

Route 287 was closed down at 3:07 PM, shortly after Middlebury’s Engine 11-2 unit with crew arrived on scene and set up command. At that same time, one patient was loaded into a Tioga Ambulance and transported to UPMC Wellsboro Hospital.
A second patient, a female, was transported by another Tioga Ambulance around 3:26 PM to UPMC Wellsboro Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
By 4:13 PM, all three heavily damaged vehicles were towed away by Cooper’s Towing out of Wellsboro. All remaining fire crews from Middlebury and Tioga were also cleared to return to back their stations as Route 287 was reopened to traffic.
