1 Driver Injured and 1 Driver Flees on Foot From Crash in Covington

North Williamson Road Reopened

COVINGTON, PA – A fire quickly consumed one of the vehicles involved in a two vehicle head-on collision crash that caused the partial closure of North Williamson Road on Thursday, March 5, 2026.

The accident occurred around 4:36 PM near 2290 North Williamson Road in Covington Township.

Mansfield Hose Company ambulance crew along with fire units rushed to the scene as multiple calls about the crash and fire were received by the 911 Dispatch Center.

At 4:39 PM Mansfield ambulance arrived first on scene and EMS personnel quickly reported that one of the vehicles was fully involved in flames and that the roadway was blocked. It was also noted that one person fled the scene on foot.

Mansfield fire units arrived on scene a few minutes later and confirmed the roadway was blocked and the road was closed down. At that same time Blossburg Borough Police responded to the scene to assist in locating the male driver that fled the scene after the accident.

North Williamson Road was closed between the blinker light in Covington and the Route 660 intersection.

The vehicle fire was reported under control by 4:49 PM. Penelec crew arrived at the crash scene by 4:56 PM. It was reported out a short time later.

The female driver was able to exit her vehicle but was injured and transported to UPMC Wellsboro Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

A towing service arrived on scene around 5:24 PM.

By 5:40 PM all remaining Mansfield fire units were able to head back to their station.

North Williamson Road was reopened shortly after 6:00 PM as the last vehicle was towed away.
