Notice issued by Superintendent Sam A. Rotella Jr.
MANSFIELD, PA – On Friday, May 8, 2026, Superintendent Sam A. Rotella Jr., released the following information to the public at 3:00 PM. An update was provided later at 3:55 PM after our original article was posted. So this post was updated by 4:15 PM..
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Staff,
The District is providing this notice to inform you of an incident involving the possession of a weapon that occurred on school property, as required by Pennsylvania law.
According to Rotella in later update, the weapon was a cutting instrument at the North Penn-Mansfield High School and an extra-curricular event on Thursday, May 7, 2026. The matter was addressed promptly and in accordance with District policies and applicable law.
At this time, there is no ongoing threat to students or staff. When appropriate, the District coordinates with law enforcement and follows established safety, disciplinary, and threat-assessment procedures.
To respect student privacy and comply with state and federal law, the District cannot share additional details about the individuals involved. The school is providing this notice to ensure transparency and to keep the school community informed.
The safety and well-being of students and staff remain their highest priority.
Because Governor Shapiro signed Act 44 of 2025 into law, which created new Notification Requirements whenever a weapon is discovered on school property. Districts are required to notify employees, parents, or guardians of these incidents.
This new law may result in more frequent notifications, even when the incident does not pose an active safety threat. Although the District must provide parents/guardians and employees with information about weapons violations, the Notice cannot include any personally identifiable student information due to privacy and confidentiality laws.
Act 44 of 2025 Notice – May 2026.
