FARMINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA – A Tioga, PA, woman faces numerous felony aggravated assault charges aftera she swings knife towards two troopers on Sunday, September 13, 2026.
On Sunday, September 13, 2026, around 3:30 PM, Tioga County Emergency Services received a call from 40-year-old Amanda Mae Byrd of Tioga, PA. During that call Byrd allegedly made various demands and expressed vulgarity towards dispatchers.
According to Pennsylvania State Police based in Mansfield, PA, troopers responded around 4:26 PM to the 200 block of Lost Lane Drive to check on the welfare of the caller (Amanda Byrd). While trying to speak to Byrd she allegedly armed herself with a large camping knife and swung the knife in the direction of the two troopers. As police tried to take Byrd into custody, she was said to have tried to pull away from police and attempted to kick both troopers, as well as spit at another officer.
None of the troopers were injured in Byrd’s attempts during the incident.
Amanda Mae Byrd was later charged via criminal complaint, through District Court 04-3-01 with the following;
- 2 Counts of 18 § 2702 §§ A2 – Aggravated Assault – Attempts to Cause or Causes Serious Bodily Injuries to Designated Individuals (1st Degree Felony).
- 2 Counts of 18 § 2702 §§ A3 – Aggravated Assault – Attempts to Cause or Causes Serious Bodily Injuries to Designated Individuals (2nd Degree Felony).
- 2 Counts of 18 § 2702 §§ A6 – Aggravated Assault – Attempts to Cause or Causes Serious Bodily Injuries to Designated Individuals (2nd Degree Felony).
- 18 § 907 §§ A – Possession instrument of crime with intent (1st Degree Misdemeanor).
- 2 Counts of 18 § 2701 §§ A1 – Simple Assault (2nd Degree Misdemeanor).
- 2 Counts of 18 § 2701 §§ A3 – Simple Assault (2nd Degree Misdemeanor).
- 2 Counts of 18 § 2705 – Recklessly Endangering Another Person (2nd Degree Misdemeanor).
- 2 Counts of 18 § 2709 §§ A1 – Harassment- Subject Other to Physical Contact (Summary).
- 18 § 5104 M2 Resisting Arrest/Other Law Enforcement (2nd Degree Misdemeanor).
- 35 § 5310 §§ A – Communications with 911 Systems (Misdemeanor).
Byrd was placed in the Tioga County Prison located in Wellsboro, PA, following her arrest. Her monetary bail was set at $250,000.00. Byrd’s preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, September 24th. at 9:15 AM in front of Magisterial District Judge James R. Edgcomb.
