TIOGA, PA – Fire crews from Tioga, Lawrenceville, Lindley, Middlebury, and a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) from Wellsboro were dispatched to a possible structure fire at 17819 Route 287, around 8:00 PM.
Early reports indicated that a large pot of grease caught fire inside the residence. The burning pot of grease was carried outside. However, during that process one person was burned and the grease spilled on the porch creating a huge flame.
As fire crews rushed to the scene, it was reported that a resident at that location believed the fire was out. As in most cases, Tioga fire personnel continued in to the scene to evaluate the situation.
Tioga fire personnel arrived at the home at 8:05 PM and they confirmed the fire was out. It was also noted that the residence needed extensive ventilation due to the smoke from the grease fire.
By 8:08 PM Lawrenceville, Lindley, Middlebury and Wellsboro RIT crews were recalled which allowed them to return back to their stations.
One person was transported around 8:28 PM to UPMC Wellsboro Hospital for treatment.
Firefighters finished ventilating the home and cleaning up at 8:30 PM, at which time they were able to head back to their station after a job well done.
