Obituary of Shirley Ann “Mitzie” Dunkleberger of Covington, PA

Shirley Ann “Mitzie” Dunkleberger, 91, peacefully passed away at home on Saturday, February 14, 2026.

Mitzie was born in Bayonne, New Jersey, on August 27, 1934. She was the beloved daughter of Karl and Bridget Loud.

Mitzie was married to Gary Whittaker he passed away in 1990; she then married Ermin Dunkleberger, he passed away in 2007.

Mitzie found great enjoyment in a variety of hobbies and interests. She was an avid bowler and delighted in the challenge of crossword puzzles. Her skill at Jeopardy! was well known  In addition, Mitzie took pleasure in bird watching and would occasionally enjoy a round of golf.

Above all, Mitzie cherished her family. She especially loved caring for her grandkids, always finding joy in their presence. Her talent for cooking was evident in that she could roast a mean chicken.

Mitzie is survived by children; Tina Kendall, Laurie (John) Buchert, Jon (Jolynne) Whittaker, and Sandy Whittaker. Sister; Lorraine (Bill) Erway, Kathleen (Larry) Powell, and grandkids; Dan, Chelsea, Jon, Adele. Megan, Trey, Angie, Casey, John, and Matt, and many great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death in addition to her husband’s Gary and Ermin, a daughter Teresa Stevens, brothers; Lawrence (Violet) Loud, Carl (Pat) Loud, Daniel (Darlene) Loud, Warren (Stella) Loud, sisters; Muriel (Carl) Fulford, Doris (Bernard) Mengee, Alice (Roger) Cochran, and Audrey (Wynn) Chilson.

A Celebration of Life to honor and remember Mitzie will be arranged at a later date. The specific time and date of the gathering will be announced to family and friends once plans are finalized.
