
James Dale “JR” Runyan, age 67 of Elkland, PA, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 3, 2026. Born on Thursday, June 19, 1958, in Wellsboro, PA, he was the son of the late, Richard K. and Mary “Molly” (Walters) Runyan.
JR graduated from Elkland High School, he was a bartender at Smitty’s for many years. He just recently retired from Westlake after 30 years of service.
He was a long time member of the Elkland Moose Lodge and served two terms as Governor. JR was an avid pool player and played in the pool league. He loved to watch sports and ESPN, as well as enjoyed going to the NASCAR races in Dover and Watkins Glen. Most of all he loved his children and grandchildren.
JR is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Charlene; children, Jamie (Dustin) VanZile and Ben (Kendra Orchowski) Runyan; he was Poppy to Hailey, Dustin Jr., Dylan and Mia; special aunt, Rosie Meyers and family; special niece and nephew, Teresa Duell and Michael Hough and many other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, David and Randy Runyan; parents in law, Beatrice and Grey Farrand and Charles Duell and his brothers in law, Michael (LuAnne) Duell and Chester (Lois Maryette) Duell.
A Celebration of JR’s Life was held at Kenyon Funeral Home, 214 W. Main St., Elkland on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.
