Mounties Split Day Two in Wilson

CU-Mansfield Sports Release – March 7, 2026.

WILSON, N.C.- The Mansfield Mountaineers baseball team split on the second day of Wilson N.C. Tournament, beating Clarion and falling to Chestnut Hill on Friday, March 6.
 
Mansfield would take the first game against Clarion by a score of 8-7. They would drop the second game to Chestnut Hill College by a score of 6-5. 
 
GAME ONE: Mansfield 8 – Clarion 7
 
Mansfield’s seven run fifth inning highlighted the Mounties victory over Clarion. Brad Hood earned his second victory on the year. Matt Rader got the save. Austin Beauchamp started the game and tossed five innings and five strikeouts. Brinden Floyd and Billy Riggs each had a pair of RBI.
 
The Mountaineers found themselves down 5-0 entering the fifth inning. Mansfield broke through on a walked in run. Slade Mictigue singled in the next run. Floyd doubled in the next at bat driving in two runs to make it 5-4. Riggs would give the lead to the Mounties with a two RBI doubles. Michael Palmer would drive in Riggs for the final run of the inning. Mansfield led 7-5.
 
Clarion would tie the game in the seventh on back-to-back RBI singles. Tanner Hoffman would put Mansfield up for good in the eighth inning up 8-7. That would end up being the game winning run. 

GAME TWO: Chestnut Hill 6 – Mansfield

Mansfield again found themselves in an early hole but were unable to claw out of and fell 6-5. Ryan Sekulski was the leading bat for Mansfield as he went 3-5 with three RBIs. 
 
Once again down 5-0 in the fifth the Mountaineers finally broke through on a Sekulski single. Mansfield would plate another pair of runs the following inning off a double from Cooper Rother. Mansfield still trailed 5-3.
 
The Griffins would add the insurance run in the seventh inning going up 6-3. Mansfield would respond in the penultimate inning on a two RBI single from Sekulski, to make it 6-5. Mansfield was unable to find the tying run in the ninth an fall by that score.
