RUTLAND TOWNSHIP, PA – Early Friday morning, June 5, 2026, Mansfield Hose Company, EMS and Big Elm Fire Department responded to a reported motorcycle accident along the Bailey Creek Road just before 6:30 AM.
Responding fire personnel immediately requested a medical helicopter before any fire or EMS units even arrived on scene, as they often do for motorcycle crashes.
Fire personnel from Big Elm Fire Department were first to arrive on scene. It was learned that male operator had been injured in the accident involving a deer. It was stated that motorcyclist struck a deer.
A landing zone for Guthrie Air Medical Helicopter was established by Mansfield Hose Company firefighters in Mansfield, PA, up on Dorsett Heights near the District Court.
Guthrie Air Medical Helicopter landed in Mansfield around 7:05 AM and was airborne with the victim by 7:18 PM.
Bailey Creek Road was cleared and opened by 7:16 PM and all remaining fire units were able to return to their stations.
Mansfield Hose Company was released from the landing zone shortly after Guthrie Air Medical Helicopter was airborne.
The grandmother of the male victim reported that her grandson was home and recovering from a shoulder injury. The male’s motorcycle was said to have been totaled, according to a family member.
Pennsylvania State Police is handling the investigation into the crash, although it seems apparent as to what caused the accident.
