Mayor Dan Mandell and Dr. Stephen Coleman to Honor First Responders and Firefighters

ELMIRA, NY – Dr. Stephen Coleman is proud to announce his Eighth Unity in the Community Event. This one will honor and thank first responders and firefighters. Just as he did in May at the event to honor corrections officers, Dr. Coleman is teaming up with Elmira Mayor Dan Mandell to sponsor this first of its kind community event that specifically honors first responders and firefighters.

The event will be held at the historic Empire Sports and Events Complex in Elmira on Saturday afternoon, October 18th, from 1:00 PM till 2:00 PM. The complex is at the corner of North Main and Church Streets. The Eighth Unity in the Community Event to Honor and Thank First Responders and Firefighters is free and open to the public, with no tickets required.

”It’s about time that first responders and firefighters get the recognition they deserve and this will happen on October 18th,” Mayor Mandell said. “These brave men and women in communities throughout the Twin Tiers risk their lives to keep us safe when disaster strikes,” he continued.

Dr. Coleman said: “I hope this event contributes to an atmosphere in the Twin Tiers that encourages citizens to step forward to become first responders and firefighters, something that is so desperately needed.”

Besides Mayor Mandell and Dr. Coleman, a number of community leaders will be speaking, including: New York State Senator Tom O’Mara, Former Chemung County Executive Tom Santulli, Lt. Dan Rogers, Elmira Fire Department, Willie Owens, Community Activist, and Founder of Chemung County Youth Football League, Dakota Rinker, 12-year-old, First Responder Supporter.
