MANSFIELD, PA – By Tuesday morning, October 7, 2025, there was less smoke coming from a hay barn fire that broke out late Saturday morning along Canoe Camp Creek Road in Richmond Township. Local firefighters gained more ground on extinguishing the burning hay bales on Monday evening.
A large number of large hay bales have continued to burn and smolder since the fire was contained late Saturday afternoon.
Since the fire, Mansfield Hose Company and tankers from nearby fire departments have been to the scene several times to tear apart the remaining bales and spray them down with water in hopes of cutting down the smoke and extinguish the burning hay.
According to Mansfield Hose Company, on Monday evening, October 6th, fifteen fire department personnel and an excavator removed more of the hay and applied over 30,000 more gallons of water over the smoldering hay for three hours with the assistance from Blossburg and Big Elm Fire Departments as those departments’ tankers transported water to the scene.
It was noted by Mansfield Hose Company, that they are dealing with approximately 325,000 pounds of hay that was stored in the barn that was caught fire on Saturday morning (October 4th).
The fire company hopes what they did last night will lessen the smoke conditions in Mansfield.
The fire company expressed their thanks to Blossburg Fire Department and Big Elm Fire Department for their assistance on Monday evening.
Mansfield fire personnel will continue to monitor the situation.
FNN staff extends our thanks to Mansfield Hose Company and those fire departments who have been assisting with this fire. Rain is in the forecast for today, which may help some with this situation.
