WESTFIELD, PA – Broughton Road was closed down temporarily early Wednesday morning, February 18, 2026, around 6:22 AM as fire apparatus from Crary Hose, Knoxville-Deerfield Fire Department, Elkland (RIT), Chatham Township Volunteer Fire Company and Clymer Hose rushed to the scene of garage fire.
Fire crews were dispatched shortly after 6:00 AM to 959 Broughton Road for a 2 car garage with an upper level that had flames showing when the resident called 911.
The fire rapidly spread as flames broke through the roof.
Fire personnel arrived on scene around 6:14 AM and reported that the structure was well involved.
The garage fire was quickly brought under control by 6:33 AM, Crews had only been on scene for approximately 15 minutes. However, it was firefighters’ fast action on getting water on the flames greatly assisted in knocking down the fire.
Elkland fire personnel were cleared to return to their station shortly after 7:00 AM, followed by Chatham Township Volunteer Fire Company around 7:20 AM.
All remaining fire crews were cleared at 7:35 PM as the fire was out and the area was well watered down.
Broughton Road was reopened to traffic by 7:41 AM.
The garage was a complete loss. A cause has not been reported at this time.
According to property records the garage was owned by Robert Ladd, as well as Edmund and Carolyn Stermer of Westfield, PA.
