COUDERSPORT, PA – On Monday, January 5, 2026, around 1:10 PM, fire crews were dispatched to a house fire directly across from Sheetz along Route 6 West in Coudersport, PA. The 2½-story home located at 123 Route 6 West had visible smoke coming from eaves as Coudersport’s Assistant Chief Mike Spencer arrived on scene within a minute of the tones going off.

Fire apparatus from Coudersport Fire Department, Coudersport Ambulance and Port Allegany responded with RIT (a Rapid Intervention Team). Later an engine from Roulette Fire Department was requested and they responded to assist Coudersport firefighters.

Coudersport’s Tower 48 would arrive on scene by 1:13 PM with a four man crew on board. Next the company’s tanker and crew arrived and jumped into action alongside their fellow firefighters to fight the fire.

At 1:19 PM Route 6 West was temporarily closed down to allow for equipment repositioning, so fire crews could handle the fire more easily. Once needed equipment was moved into place, Route 6 West was reopened to one-lane traffic with assistance from PennDOT and local police until all units cleared the scene.

Although Austin fire crews were dispatched a short time later, they were recalled as the fire was was quickly brought under control at 1:31 PM.

A Fire Marshal was requested to the scene by Coudersport Command.  The fire was investigated by both the Coudersport Fire Department and the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Unit. The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical in nature, according to Coudersport Fire Department.

Coudersport fire personnel reported that there no one was home at the time of the fire.  It was noted that the estimated property damage was approximately $85,000.

Firefighters were said to have rescued the family’s dog.  It was transported to a veterinary facility by Coudersport Borough Police Department and the dog did survive. However two cats perished in this fire.

There were no injuries reported in this incident.

At this time, FNN does not have the name of the family whose home was damaged by flames.  Also FNN is unaware of any fundraisers or donation drives to assist the family.  If anyone has any information on these, please send FNN an email directly to firstnewsnow1@gmail.com.  Make sure the email address is written correctly before you submit anything in.

Special thanks to Coudersport Fire Department for providing additional information. A job well done by all on scene assisting. Remember to support your local volunteer fire department and Ambulance Department in 2026.
