Early Start Secures Split of Final Two Games

CU-Mansfield Sports Release – Monday, February 16, 2026.

GLENVILLE, W. Va. – The Mountaineer baseball team (1-3) traveled to Glenville State University for a doubleheader against the Pioneers (3-1) on Monday (Feb. 16) afternoon, with the games being split.

Game One: Glenville State 7, Mansfield 6

The game had a quick start in the second inning, where the Pioneers picked up a home run to put themselves on the scoreboard.

At the top of the third, Slade Mictigue hit a single to center field, giving Kahale Burns the opportunity to score.

Billy Riggs saw his chance and took it stealing home to give the Mounties their first lead of the game 2-1.

Ending the upbeat inning Michael Palmer hit a fly ball out to right field, allowing Mictigue to close out with a run.

Grenville State slowly returned with runs of their own in the third, fifth and sixth inning.

Both teams went into the seventh inning tied at four causing an extra two innings. 

Mansfield was able to pick up two more runs, but the Pioneers collected three to take the first game of the day.

Game Two: Mansfield 6, Glenville State 1

The game opened up with a run right away off of a double from Riggs, giving Burns the room to score.

Peter Tadic collected his second home run of the four game series, bringing Riggs home with him, with the Mounties leading 3-0.

The Pioneers were able to put themselves on the scoreboard in the third inning.

Two more runs were picked up by the Mountaineers in the fourth inning based on two singles from Riggs and Tadic, 5-1.

Luck was present for Mansfield as the final run was off of a stolen base from Michael Palmer, to push the final score 6-1.
