Early Lead Pushes Mountaineers Ahead of Clarion

CU-Mansfield Sports Release – March 8, 2026.

WILSON, N.C. – The Mountaineer baseball team (8-7) traveled to the Wilson, N.C. Tournament to compete against Clarion University (6-7) on Saturday (Mar. 7) afternoon, with the Mounties taking the game 8-3.

Game One: Mansfield 8, Clarion 3

Starting pitcher for the game was junior, Tyler Swineford, he threw seven innings, allowing just two hits and three strikeouts.

Scoring started quick for the Mounties in the first inning when Nick Ledger hit a double straight towards center field bring in two RBI’s of Billy Riggs and Slade Mictigue.

Evan Laredo followed up in the same location with a single bringing in Ledger.

Kahale Burns opened the second inning with a single to center field bringing in Ryan Sekulski to boost the scoreboard 4-0.

Mictigue took the chance to bring in Burns ending the second inning, 5-0. 

The third inning was scoreless on both sides, however it was picked back up in the fourth by Sekulski with a double to right field that brought home Tanner Hoffman.

Clarion had two runners on when a home run to left field occurred putting them on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning, 6-3.

Riggs hit a single towards left field allowing Hoffman to come home once again in the sixth.

The final run of the game was off of a single to right field from Mictigue, allowing Burns to make his way across home plate, for a final score of 8-3.
