WYALUSING, PA – On Tuesday evening, March 24, 2026, approximately 5:22 PM, a tractor trailer hauling an excavator was attempting to cross the Rainbow Bridge on the Wyalusing New Albany Road in Wyalusing when the top of the excavator struck multiple beams of the bridge. Emergency crews responded to the location along with representatives from PennDOT. The bridge will remain closed pending PennDOT inspection teams evaluating the structural integrity of the bridge on Wednesday morning, March 25, 2026. The duration of the closure is unknown at this time. Additional information will be provided following PennDOT’s inspection.
The Wyalusing New Albany Road was shut down at the bridge due to the accident.
A detour using Route 187 and Route 6 is in place. The bridge will remain closed until crews can inspect the bridge and assess the damage.
The school district has been contacted and is evaluating transportation needs for school students.
