MANSFIELD, PA – Late Friday evening, February 27, 2026, around 10:38 PM Mansfield Borough Police responded to a report of water flooding West Elmira Street in Mansfield Borough. By 10:44 PM, police located a water main break under Railroad Street The appropriate officials were notified of the water main break.
At 1:50 AM, Saturday morning, February 28, 2026, Mansfield Municipal Authority issued a “Precautionary Boil Water Advisory” for all Mansfield Borough water customers due to this water main break that caused a temporary loss of system pressure. This loss of pressure can allow contaminants to enter the water system. Thus the reason for the “Precautionary Boil Water Advisory.”
Until further notice, customers should bring all water to a rolling boil for at least one (1) minute before using for the following;
- Drinking
- Making ice
- Brushing teeth
- Washing dishes
- Food preparation
You can also use bottled water instead of boiled water for the above purposes.
Please note: you do NOT need to boil water for the following;
- Bathing or showering (avoid swallowing water)
- Laundry
- General cleaning
Shortly after 5:00 AM Borough crews were finishing up repairs on the water main break and will flush and test the system. This advisory will remain in effect until bacteriological testing confirms the water is safe.
Because of the temporary system shutdown, water may appear dirty when service resumes. Simply running the water for a short duration should clear up any issues. The Borough appreciates everyone’s patience as Borough crew finalizes the repairs and ensures clean water supply.
Customers will be notified when the boil water advisory is lifted. It was noted that the tests could take between 2 or 3 days. It takes 24 hours per test and 2 rounds of tests are needed.
If you have questions, just contact the Mansfield Borough at (570) 662-2315 ext. 2. The Borough will be checking voicemails as frequently as possible and will get back to you as quickly as possible.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as they work to ensure the safety of the water system.
