DURYEA, PA – On Sunday, January 25, 2026, prior to 2:45 PM, an avalanche was reported in LDuryea, PA (Luzerne County). Drivers were told to avoid the 900 block of Coxton Road after a significant avalanche ended up blocking the roadway.
According to officials, 10-15 feet of snow and debris made the roadway impassable, and prompted officials to issue an urgent traffic advisory. Motorists had to use alternate routes if they needed to travel, although traveling today was strongly discouraged in the area due to the present winter event.
Road crews, were able to clear the roadway of the snow and debris and the road has since been reopened.
There were no injuries reported in this incident.
