STOA: A New Musical Journey Written & Composed by Alivia Tagliaferri Brings Heart, Hope, and Home to the Stage This January
WILLIAMSPORT, PA — Born in the heart of Williamsport, STOA: A New Musical Journey is an original, family-friendly musical that celebrates love, courage, and the deep-rooted connections that help us grow. Written and composed by local author and filmmaker Alivia Tagliaferri, the production makes its stage debut January 9–18, 2026 at Lycoming College’s Clarke Chapel.
Rooted in nature and inspired by real-life experiences, STOA tells a heartfelt tale of a devoted mother bear and her young cub, separated in the forest and each navigating their way back home. Through the eyes of STOA and John Bear, audiences explore themes of nature, friendship, community, and the quiet courage that carries us through uncertain paths.
Blending the warmth of American folklore with original music, imaginative staging, and soulful characters, STOA invites audiences of all ages to rediscover the beauty of the natural world and the strength we find in each other.
STOA: A New Musical Journey follows STOA, an experienced “den mother” of the forest, who must draw upon her own teachings when she becomes separated from her cub, John Bear. As mother and son travel their parallel paths through the wilderness, they encounter woodland creatures who offer guidance, friendship, and gentle reminders that connection is what carries us forward.
With earthy, soulful music and storytelling infused with heart, the show highlights the timeless bond between parent and child — and the resilience it takes to grow, adapt, and find our way home.
More than a musical, STOA is a reminder that courage can be quiet, nature can be a teacher, and love always lights the way.

The musical explores themes essential to families and communities alike, including love, nature, connection, and the many forms of family and motherhood. It also highlights the importance of friendship, courage, resilience, and the strength we draw from community.
Each element is woven into a story that reminds us that, like the trees of the forest, every story grows stronger with care.
On Friday, January 9, 2026, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM, Lycoming College will host a Legislative Roundtable & Luncheon — “Arts in the Wilds” in the Jane Shultz Room, Wertz Student Center.
Co-hosted with State Representative Jamie Flick (PA–83rd District), this roundtable will bring together state and local elected leaders, members of the arts and education communities, and partners from outdoor and conservation organizations. The discussion will explore how creative storytelling — particularly works rooted in nature, imagination, and community — can:
• Strengthen regional identity
• Expand opportunities for children and families
• Deepen connection to Pennsylvania’s natural and cultural heritage
Participants are invited to continue the conversation that evening at the Opening Night performance of STOA: A New Musical Journey at Clarke Chapel. Members of the media are invited to attend!
