Logging Accident Leads To Land Rescue In Lawrenceville, PA

LAWRENCEVILLE, PA – On Wednesday, October 1, 2025, around 4:38 PM, fire personnel from Lawrenceville and Millerton, along with Wellsboro Medics and an ambulance from Mansfield responded to a land rescue involving a man who was injured when a tree he was cutting fell on him.

The accident occurred across the street from 320 Doud Road. in Lawrence Township. Information collected indicated that a dead Ash tree came down on a male in his early 60’s. Experienced lumberjacks claim dead Ash trees are called widow makers as large branches or sections of trees can break off unexpectedly and come down on the person cutting the tree.

The male victim was pinned under the tree for a short time and had suffered a head injury. The male had been freed from under the tree by the time Lawrenceville fire personnel arrived on scene by 4:43 PM. Due to the victim’s injuries, the need of a medical helicopter was requested, as additional apparatus arrived on scene.

The injured male was assessed by those on scene and he was carefully packaged up in protective equipment, such as a cervical collar, head immobilizer and strapped down to a backboard before being placed in a stokes basket to be transported to the landing zone in a field nearby. Mansfield ambulance arrived on scene at 4:59 PM.

Guthrie Air Medical Helicopter landed at the landing zone setup by Lawrenceville firefighters around 5:10 PM and ten minutes later the victim was loaded into the helicopter. Guthrie Air was airborne with their patient by 5:22 PM. The victim was flown to a trauma unit for treatment. of his injuries.
