WESTFIELD, PA – (UPDATE) On Monday, September 29, 2025, fire crews battled a growing forest fire for over two and half hours along the mountain side in the area off from North Street and Krusen Street intersection in Westfield Township.
Heavy smoke was reported up in the woods around 3:20 PM. Crary Hose Company responded to investigate. With increasing heavy smoke conditions, the fire was located by Crary fire personnel approximately a half mile up the mountain side. The fire was reported to involve several acres at the time it was located. Fire crews from Westfield, Knoxville, Osceola, Sabinsville, Harrison Valley and Little Marsh, as well as Drone 50 and a forestry unit responded to the scene to assist.
Middlebury Township Volunteer Fire Department was called in to be a standby unit to cover any additional emergencies in Westfield, Knoxville and Harrison Valley fire departments, as crews fought to extinguish the flames.
According to Crary Hose Company, fire personnel set up a staging area and a water supply on the first shelf of mountain side. Tankers from Harrison and Knoxville set up secondary water supply down on North Street.
The forest fire was reported contained by 4:42 PM by Westfield Command, as firefighters continued to battle the blaze and put the fire out.
At 5;28 PM firefighters had been fighting the fire just over two hours.
Fire crews started cleaning up around 5:40 PM and some units were able to head back to their stations. However, several fire units were still on scene as of 5:55 PM.
The fire scene was turned over to Forestry (Sierra 14) at 6:03 PM for a fire watch over the area. All remaining fire units were cleared to head back to their stations at that same time.
