MANSFIELD, PA – A safety improvement project continues along South Main Street (Route 2005) and Canoe Camp Creek Road (Route 2027) in Richmond Township, Tioga County.
South Main Street
Work started back on Sunday, April 19, as the contractor, Glenn O. Hawbaker, begin drainage work along South Main Street between Spenser Road (T-493) and the Route 15 interchange. Additional work will includes roadway widening and base repairs. (Residents living along this area have lost a section of their private property, similar to what occurred when Wellsboro had their road widened for a left turn lane and some residents lost most of their front yards to these types of projects).
Traffic Impacts during daylight hours –
Daylight Hours
• Drivers can expect one lane of traffic in each direction between the hours of 6:00 AM and 7:00 PM.
Traffic impacts during overnight hours –
• Drivers can expect single lane conditions with flagging between the hours of 7:00 PM and 6:00 AM Sundays through Thursdays.
As for Canoe Camp Creek Road project, work was started back on Monday, April 20, 2026. The contractor will continue to install sheet piles to stabilize the embankment.
Drivers can expect single lane conditions with flagging between South Main Street and West Gate Road during daylight hours.
Glenn O. Hawbaker is the prime contractor for this expensive $6.2 million safety improvement project on South Main Street and Canoe Camp Creek Road in Richmond Township.
Work on South Main Street includes the following –
Drainage improvement, placing curb, roadway widening and construction of a two-way left turn lane.
As for the rehabilitation of the bridge over Canoe Camp Creek, there will be widening of the structure over an unnamed tributary to the Tioga River, milling and paving the roadway, and guide rail upgrades. Additional work on this project includes placement of the sheet pile along Canoe Camp Creek Road. Work on this project is anticipated to be completed in the fall 2026, weather permitting.
