Mansfield Game Two Comeback Falls Short Against Lock Haven

MANSFIELD, PA –  The Mansfield Mountaineers softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader against Lock Haven on Tuesday, April 21, falling 9-0 in the opener before a late rally came up short in a 4-3 loss in game two.

GAME  TWO : Lock Haven 4 – Mansfield 3

In the circle, Emma Maurer kept the game within reach pitching a complete game with six strikeouts. Mansfield would get six hits from the lineup offensively.

Trailing 4-0 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, the Mounties broke through with three runs. Key hits from Madison Stahli and Emma Wonsick highlighted the inning, with Stahli driving in two runs and Wonsick adding an RBI double to cut into the deficit to 4-3.

Despite the momentum shift, Mansfield could not complete the comeback. The Bald Eagles held on over the final inning to secure the sweep.

GAME  ONE : Lock Haven 9 – Mansfield 0

In the day’s opener, Lock Haven broke the game open in the fourth inning after being scoreless. They would plate seven runs in that inning.

Mansfield was limited offensively throughout, being held to a single hit from Shannon Perlungher. The Mounties managed just a handful of baserunners and were unable to push a run across against Lock Haven pitching.

UP NEXT: Mansfield has the final home game of the season on Friday, April 24 as they welcome the Shippensburg Raiders into Helen Lutes Field.
