Obituary of William R. “Bill” Crane of Canton, PA

William R. “Bill” Crane, 94, of Canton, PA, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. William Robert was born on March 28, 1932, the eldest of five children of the late Robert and Jean (Baxter) Crane.

He attended Troy Area Schools and graduated with the Class of 1948. Shortly after, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served for four years working in aviation radar.

Bill and his first wife, Betty (Grace) Crane, shared 50 years of marriage until her passing in 2004. In 2005, he married the former Nancy Page, and the couple enjoyed 17 years together until Nancy’s passing in 2023. Bill worked in automobile sales for Ed Brueilly Dodge in Mansfield, PA, for more than 40 years, retiring at age 70.

Bill was an avid hunter and baseball player who was a big New York Yankees fan. Bill loved to drive and in his younger years, he raced stock cars at local dirt tracks. Throughout his life he enjoyed traveling across the country, even driving to Alaska a few times. Yellowstone National Park held a special place in his heart. He also spent many Saturdays at Tioga Downs Casino, always hoping for that big win.

Bill is survived by the children he shared with Betty: Terry Young, Matthew (Barb) Crane, Robert (Stephanie) Crane, and Karen (Robert) Silvernail; as well as grandchildren Cody, Mason, Lauren, Carrie, Lena, David, Adam, Ashley, Aryn, Evan, and Anna.

After Betty’s passing, Bill gained four stepchildren through his marriage to Nancy: David (Denise) Page, Joann (David) Greenough, Jan Ray, and George III (Eileen) Page, along with five additional grandchildren. Between both families, he was blessed with several great-grandchildren and even some great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and his two wives, Bill was predeceased by his brother and sister‑in‑law, Russell “Stub” Crane; his sister, Janet Packard; his son‑in‑law, William Young; and two grandchildren, Darryl and Logan.

Bill will be remembered and deeply missed for his quick wit, big laugh, and warm, unforgettable smile.

In keeping with Bill’s wishes there will be no services. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
