Man Sentenced in Murder For Hire Plot

BRADFORD COUNTY, PA – Matthew Simon Bullock, 26, Meshoppen, PA, was sentenced in early April in a case involving a murder for hire plot.

According to District Attorney Richard Wilson and court records, Bullock was sentenced to a minimum of 96 months, or 8 years, in state prison to a maximum of 20 years, together with a $1,000.00 fine, for the offense of Solicitation of Murder in the First Degree.

Bullock was also sentenced to an additional minimum of three months to a maximum of 3 years, plus a $500.00 fine, for the offense of Criminal Use of a Communication Facility, another Felony, making Bullock’s overall minimum sentence of just over 8 years in state prison to a maximum of 23 years.

Matthew Bullock was charged with the offenses by Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Robert Richter and Bradford County Drug Task Force Detective Michael Lamanna. The Officers investigated Bullock’s communication with certain individuals in order to set up a “hit” on a Tunkhannock resident. Bullock initially set up a meeting with the hitman using his cell phone, resulting in the Criminal Use of a Communication Facility charge.

When Bullock met with the hitman, however, he was unaware that it was a police officer in disguise.

“We are very fortunate that law enforcement became aware of this and intervened, because if they had not, Bullock may have been successful in hiring another individual to commit murder,” stated District Attorney Richard Wilson, who noted that Bullock had reached out to another individual for the hit.
