Towanda Couple Sentenced in Theft Case While Wife was Manager of Store

TOWANDA, PA – A Towanda, PA, couple was recently sentenced in theft case that occurred over a long period time at a Dandy Mini Mart store.

31-year-old Alyssa L. Sparks of Towanda, PA, was recently sentenced to 30 days in the Bradford County Correctional Facility to a maximum of 21 months, along with an obligation to repay $23,825.09 in restitution to Dandy Mini Marts, Inc., following her conviction for Theft by Unlawful Taking, a Felony.

Sparks was the manager of the Dandy Mini Mart in Towanda over a period of time where potentially hundreds of retail thefts occurred with her knowledge and consent, along with direct thefts of money.

Sparks’ conviction marks the end of a lengthy criminal investigation by law enforcement, spearheaded by Officer Bryan D. Bellows of the Towanda Borough Police Department. The investigation resulted in approximately a dozen other convictions, including Sparks’ own husband.

Alyssa Sparks’ husband, 40-year-old Robert Alexander Sparks, was also sentenced in this case. Robert Sparks was sentenced to only five years of Probation and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $23,825.09 to Dandy Mini Mart, Inc., following his own conviction for Retail Theft, graded as a Felony of the Third Degree.

Robert Sparks and his wife who was manager of that store conspired over a period of years to steal money and merchandise from The Dandy Mini Mart that was formerly operating in Towanda Borough.

The thefts took place over a significant period of time and required the review of hundreds if not thousands of hours of surveillance footage.

This prosecution, along with approximately a dozen other similar prosecutions, were the result of the lengthy investigation by Dandy Mini Mart investigators, private detectives, and ultimately Officer Bryan D. Bellows of the Towanda Borough Police Department.
