Obituary of William S. “Bill” Reed of Westfield, PA

William S. “Bill” Reed, 83, of Westfield, PA, died Wednesday, February 25, 2026, in Elmira, NY.  Born October 11, 1942, in Buffalo, NY, he was the son of Arlington E. and Maude Cary Reed.  

On September 4, 1971, in Harrison Valley, PA, he married Louise D. Schmidt, who survives.  

A 1960 graduate of Northern Potter High School, Bill served honorably with the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War from 1968 – 1970.  

Bill worked the family farm, was a maintenance foreman for Westfield Tanning Company for most of his career, and was a skilled welder, mechanic, and equipment operator.  

He had a knack for solving complex problems with simple solutions.  Bill loved music and he played the guitar in an Army band , as well as played in local bands.  

Surviving besides his wife, Louise, are: two sons, Earl (Wendy) Reed of Smyrna, DE and Matthew (Bridget) Reed of Westfield; five grandchildren, Sarah, Camden, Nathaniel, Benjamin, and Ella; two brothers, Robert (Linda) Reed of Sayre and Richard (Deanna) Reed of Mills; two nephews, Shane (Heather) Reed of Waverly, NY and Scott (Lakeisha) Reed of Westfield; and cousins.  

Friends may call at the Harrison Valley C&MA Church on Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, with Funeral Services following at 12:00 PM.  Rev. Kevin Cornish will officiate. 

 Military Rites will be accorded by members of the Potter County Honor Guard.  Burial will be in Mills Cemetery.
