Tractor Trailer Jackknifed Across Broughton Hollow Road

WELLSBORO, PA – Icy roadway causes tractor trailer to jackknife across the lower end of Broughton Hollow Road near the Route 287 intersection early Wednesday morning, March 4, 2026.

Wellsboro fire crews responded the accident that was reported around 2:30 AM near 1364 Broughton Hollow Road in Delmar Township. Fire personnel arrived on scene at 2:52 AM and immediately reported that the roadway was a sheet of ice. A cinder truck from PennDOT was requested at that same time. Minutes later fire personnel requested PennDOT to assist with stopping traffic at the top of Broughton Hollow Road to prevent any other vehicles from coming down the hill.

Broughton Hollow Road was closed down around 3:22 AM between West Hill Road and Route 287 intersections.

A wrecker was requested as it will be needed to assist in moving the jackknifed tractor trailer. White’s Towing arrived on scene 4:24 AM.

The scene was turned over Pennsylvania State Police and White’s Towing around 4:33 AM and all Wellsboro fire crews were returned back to their station.

The truck driver was not injured in the incident. Broughton Hollow Road was reported to have reopened around 7:00 AM.
