GALETON, PA – The residents of Galeton and surrounding communities are heartbroken as the Galeton Drug Store located at 20 West Street in Galeton, PA, will close its doors on Friday, February 13, 2026.
The store was a dream come true for Ryan Schott, who worked hard to bring the pharmacy to a reality in Galeton, PA. The town in which he grew up in and attended school had such a need for a drug store. Ryan worked hard with others to make it happen and he loved being behind the counter serving those around him. The Galeton Drug Store would become well known for it’s uniqueness and kind staff. The store was truly loved by customers, as Ryan and Steph and other employees assisted those who came in for this or that, or stopped in for their prescriptions.
Sadly Ryan would pass away at the age of 56, after a courageous battle against cancer on October 5 2025. However, with his passing the drug store became unsustainable as it struggled to keep moving forward as staff tried hard to fill the needs of the of community it served.
The decision to close Galeton Pharmacy had to be made and it was finally announced to the community on Monday, February 2nd. With that said, the Galeton Drug Store stated they would close its doors on February 13th.
It was noted on the Galeton Drug Store’s Facebook page that pharmacies are closing at a rate of 1 store per day in Pennsylvania and without legislative change that trend will continue. Similar to the statement that was released by Bloss Pharmacy in Blossburg, PA, when it was forced to close its doors back on July 26, 2024.
Over the last two weeks Galeton Drug Store employees assisted customers with transferring their prescriptions records to Coudersport Pharmacy. It was noted by the staff that starting on Monday, February 16th, Coudersport Pharmacy will begin daily delivery services (Mon-Fri) to Galeton and surrounding areas. If you have questions you can call the Coudersport Pharmacy at (814) 738-8383. They are open Monday through Friday, from 9 AM-6 PM and Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM.
Coudersport Pharmacy offers a full line of Brand and Generic medications, including GLP1 and some brand name medications that may not have been available locally before the transition.
The Galeton Drug Store appreciates the love and support they have received over the years from the community they served. As for the employees you all have been more like a family and your dedication to loving and helping the community just as Ryan and Steph have for all of these years, has been greatly appreciated. You all will be missed immensely.
