931 People Attend All-You-Can-Eat Labor Day Weekend Fly-In Breakfast

WELLSBORO, PA Between 8:00 a.m. and noon on Sunday, August 31, 2015, a total of 931 people, including 877 adults and 54 youngsters ages 4 to 8, attended the Canyon Pilots Association’s All-You-Can-Eat Labor Day Fly-In Breakfast at the Grand Canyon Regional Airport in Delmar Township at 112 Runway Road, Wellsboro, PA 16901.

“931 people attended our Labor Day breakfast,” said Joe Burnside, Canyon Pilots Association treasurer. “That’s fewer than have attended in the last couple of years. This past May, 1,100 people attended our Memorial Day weekend breakfast including 1,021 adults and 79 children,” he said.

Sunday began with fog but that soon lifted and a total of 36 pilots flew their own planes to the airport to enjoy breakfast and speak with anyone who had questions.

Airplane rides over the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon were also offered for a fee.

“Usually, the day starts off slowly with people trickling in but for this breakfast we were packed starting at 7:45 a.m. and continuing until 11 a.m. Between 11 a.m. and noon, we only served about 40 breakfasts,” he said.

“We were considering raising our prices for the Labor Day breakfast but decided not to because we felt we could cover the increases. Many of our costs remained about the same as our Memorial Day weekend breakfast. We did see a tremendous price increase in coffee. Ham and some other items cost more, too but we absorbed that.”

A special woman who remains anonymous again attended the breakfast and donated $20 to be used to provide a meal to two people who did not have money to pay. “No attendees needed a helping hand this year so her donation helped us,” Burnside said.

“We really appreciate her donations this year and in the past because they have helped both people attending the breakfasts and us,” said Burnside.
