KNOXVILLE, PA – Multiple fire crews were dispatched to a 2 story house fire in Knoxville around 5:44 PM. A second alarm was issued as Knoxville fire personnel at the Knoxville-Deerfield Fire Department, could already see heavy smoke in the distance.
Knoxville fire personnel arrived on scene at 5:48 PM and reported that smoke and flames could be seen coming from the home. Additional fire units were once again requested. Overall fire apparatus from at least 12 fire departments were dispatched to the fire, which was still actively burning at 6:17 PM.
Fire units from Knoxville, Clymer, Chatham, Elkland, Blossburg, Middlebury, Harrison Valley, Wellsboro, Westfield, Osceola, Lawrenceville and Troopsburg were said to be on scene fighting this blaze.
The fire was finally brought under control around 7:32 PM. Firefighters had been on scene for two hours as of 7:49 PM.
Lawrenceville and Wellsboro units were first to be released from the fire scene. Additional crews were cleared throughout the the following hour.
The fire was reported out at 8:20 PM, however, several departments remained on scene checking for hot spots and cleaning up, as of 8:50 PM.
Knoxville fire crews were the last to clear out from the devastating fire scene at 9:08 PM and returned to their station.
According to property records, the 125-year-old home is owned by Willis and Heather Stanton of Knoxville, PA. The home is believed to be a total loss at this time as the fire was extensive.
The cause of the fire has not been released. With the amount of damage it may be impossible to find the cause of this fire.
