Road Work Once Again In Mansfield Borough

MANSFIELD, PA – (UPDATE) Local residents were surprised to see flaggers and road crews working once again along Route 6 from West Wellsboro Street bridge which had recently been completed earlier this year as part of the the Mansfield PennDOT Project.

The Mansfield PennDOT Project involved roadway resurfacing (milling and overlay) of Route 6 (Wellsboro Street) and Route 2005 (Business 15/Main Street) in Mansfield Borough and Richmond Township. The project was to have road crews maintain the underlying pavement structure and address surface deterioration of the existing roadway surface. The full depth reconstruction of the roadways and upgrades to the signalized intersection of Route 6 and Route 2005 were obviously not met.

According to Mansfield Borough, there was a problem with the pavement that was installed the first time. Therefore, the road crew had to return to do the work properly.

Many residents are still wondering how can a company that is paid millions per road project not get the job done right the first time?

The company in question is the well known Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc.,who was the prime contractor for this $7.2 million construction project of Route 6 and Main Street. Back in March of this year, a statewide appeals court upheld a Centre County judge’s ruling allowing construction contractor Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc., to face administrative consequences in addition to the massive theft case that cost the business more than $20 million. Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. was the defendant in one criminal case in 2021, where they pleaded no contest to four counts of theft by failure to make required disposition of funds. However, there are other legal actions, including a PennDOT sanction case that has been appealed to the state’s Supreme Court, a class-action lawsuit by former employees, and an insurance company lawsuit.

The Mansfield PennDOT Project is now slated to be completed sometime this fall, according to PennDOT.
