Carol Jean Mitstifer, age 78, of Liberty, PA, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2026, at UPMC Wellsboro Hospital (formerly Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital) in Wellsboro, PA. She was born on Friday, December 19, 1947, in Blossburg, PA, a daughter of John and Alice (Stempeck) Boinski.
Carol was married to Dayton Wayne Mitstifer. She was employed by Wundies Undies for 22 years and worked as a transcriptionist at Williamsport Hospital and at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Wellsboro, PA. Carol was a member of Christian Church in Cogan Station, PA. She enjoyed gardening, canning, quilting, crocheting Afghans, reading books, making cookies, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her husband; a son, Michael (Debrah) Mitstifer; two daughters, Karen Arrington of Liberty, PA, and Paula (Harold “Buster”) Phillips of Morris, PA; four grandchildren, Dayton (Theresa) Root, Perry Arrington, Dale (Shelby) Phillips, and Luke Phillips; several great grandchildren; a brother, Robert Boinski of Millerton, PA ; and a sister, Joan Page of FL. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends and family are invited to call on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. 637 S. Main St. Mansfield, PA. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm with Pastor Jeff Steppe officiating. Burial will take place in Friedens Lutheran Cemetery in Liberty, PA.
