TIOGA TOWNSHIP, PA – Fire crews from Tioga, Lawrenceville and even Middlebury Center were dispatched early Saturday morning, January 3, 2026, around 3:15 AM to a reported tree fire. The initial call to the 911 Dispatch Center came from the Pennsylvania State Police Barrack in Mansfield, PA.

The location of the tree fire was first reported along the Mitchell Creek Road near the intersection of Route 287 in Tioga Township.

Around 3:21 AM the Tioga fire personnel requested that responding Lawrenceville and Middlebury fire units to hold at their stations as Tioga Fire Chief Dan Nauman continued to the scene.

When the fire chief arrived on scene at 3:27 AM, he confirmed that a tree was on fire. However, Chief Nauman also provided the correct location of the fire, which was along Mitchell Creek Road near the intersection of Endless View Lane. A few minutes later Engine 7-3 with personnel arrived on scene and together they worked to extinguish the fire.

As firefighters worked on putting out the tree fire, Pennsylvania State Police arrived at the location around 3:47 AM.

The burning tree was reported out by 3:51 AM. Around that same time Lawrenceville and Middlebury fire units were able to be recalled as they were not needed for this incident.

After the fire was extinguished, firefighters cut down the smoldering tree and soaked it, as well as wet down the surrounding area to eliminate any hot spots so there would be no rekindle of the fire.

At this time, the cause of the tree fire was stated as unknown.

All Tioga firefighters and apparatus were cleared to return to their station at 4:18 AM.
