TIOGA COUNTY, PA — Pennsylvania CASA is proud to announce the hiring of Sherri Turner-Shults as Program Director for Tioga County, reinforcing its commitment to providing consistent advocacy for children in foster care who have experienced abuse or neglect.
Following a period of restructuring, the organization is rebuilding its volunteer program, strengthening internal operations, and reestablishing a stable foundation to meet the community’s needs under PA CASA’s Keystone Advocacy Initiative. This Initiative will allow the program in Tioga County to stabilize following a significant transition, while preserving its community presence and unique identity.
Born and raised in Bradford County, Sherri Turner-Shults brings over 25 years of experience in the human services field. She has consulted nationally on trauma-informed, healing-centered care, developing curricula and providing leadership coaching for youth, family, and public health agencies. Locally, she coordinated Family Group Decision Making Conferences in Bradford County. Sherri holds a B.S. in Management (Human Service) and volunteers with the American Red Cross as a Disaster Action Team Responder and Disaster Recovery Caseworker.
“After many years of traveling to serve other communities, I am thrilled to have an opportunity to serve youth and families right here in Northeast PA,” says Program Director Sherri Turner-Shults. “I love the people and the tight-knit connections that are unique to our rural communities. Since the pandemic, volunteerism has fallen while the need for advocacy has grown. I am excited to connect with members of the community who are interested in giving their time to support this very important work.”
Court Appointed Special Advocates are specially trained community volunteers appointed by a judge to advocate for a child’s best interests throughout their involvement in the child welfare system. The revitalization brings new leadership and a renewed focus on volunteer recruitment and support.
Pennsylvania CASA is committed to building a strong, sustainable program that supports children and families while serving as a dependable partner within the local child welfare system.
Community members interested in learning more about becoming a volunteer advocate are encouraged to attend a free information session. Sessions cover the CASA program, the vital role of a volunteer, and the training and support provided.
