POTTER COUNTY PA – On Friday, July 5, 2024, Pennsylvania State Police based in Coudersport, PA, received an allegation of child abuse from Potter County Children and Youth Services. The allegation indicated that a known five-year-old male arrived at the UPMC Cole Hospital on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, in cardiac arrest. The victim was stabilized and transferred, via medical helicopter, to the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital in Danville, PA, for further treatment.
The victim passed away on Monday, July 22, 2024, as a direct result of this incident. The Montour County Corner’s office was contacted and assisted with this investigation. The victim’s death was later ruled as a homicide.
Interviews conducted with involved parties revealed that Andrew Schuyler Jeffers was supervising the victim and three other known children, near the 200 block of Frame Road in Sweden Township, on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. During this time, Jeffers is alleged to have assaulted the victim causing him to sustain intercranial hemorrhages.
Jeffers was also witnessed to have assaulted the victim days prior to him being rushed to UPMC Cole Hospital in Coudersport, PA.
On Wednesday, December 10, 2025, Potter County District Attorney, Andy Watson approved the following criminal charges be filed against Andrew Schuyler Jeffers through District Court 55-3-01:
– PA, Title 18, Section 2502(a), Murder of the First Degree – Homicide 1 – 1 count
– PA, Title 18, Section 2502(c), Murder of the Third Degree, Felony 1-1 count
– PA, Title 18, Section 2504(a), Involuntary Manslaughter, Felony 2 – 1 count
– PA, Title 18, Section 2702(a)(1), Aggravated Assault, Felony 1-1 count
– PA, Title 18 Section 2702(a)(8), Aggravated Assault, Felony 2 – 1 count
– PA, Title 18, Section 2702(a)(9), Aggravated Assault, Felony 1-1 count
– PA, Title 18, Section 4304(a)(1), Endangering the Welfare of Children, Felony 2 – 1 count
– PA, Title 18, Section 2705, Recklessly Endangering, Misdemeanor 2, 1 count
